Had that been Anderson he would’ve said something like “Cubs had an impressive 2015 and a bright future, but they will have to wait until next year to have a chance at a Pennant as the Mets sweeps and advances to the World Series”.

I remember when Ernie called the 2015 Mets/Cubs series and for Cubs fans he gave them credit for the season they had and knew how to acknowledge the Mets as winners and the better team in a tone that brought understanding.
He called the 2014 ALDS series between my Tigers and Orioles and that’s when I knew I didn’t want him calling my team games (he did call 2011 ALDS Tigers/Yankees, but we won so thankfully I didn’t see or hear that side of him). If you’re team is playing and losing, his calls and delivery on the action and storyline situation will make you’re viewing experience be worse. Brian Anderson is excellent, but he’s ones of those commentators you want to call a game that you have absolutely no care for which team will win. Most people didn’t like Ernie Johnson call baseball. Bottomline, TBS needs a studio guy for their baseball coverage and they had an easy option that clearly is a qualified for the gig. I haven’t even seen him on NBATV since the restart so he might be on his way out. So with that scheduled to happen, and Stern never appearing on NBA on TNT at all in 2019-20 season, I’m not surprised Stern is not returning to baseball. Prior to the Pandemic, it was reported that Casey Stern was replaced by Adam Zucker for the March Madness Atlanta studio team in the first week(end).
I want to say I’m disappointed that EJ won’t be calling any MLB games anymore, but they had to find a studio host and a reliable one since the MLB on TBS hasn’t had a reliable studio host ever since they let EJ call games.
Don Orsillo would work with Francoeur in the LDS. He would work with Ron Darling in the Division Series, with Jeff Francoeur joining them in the LCS. Per the Post, Brian Anderson - currently calling the NBA Western Conference Finals for TNT in the league’s Walt Disney World “bubble” - is set to return as the lead MLB Postseason voice on TBS. TBS said in a Thursday press release that it will use the Johnson-led studio team on its Tuesday night package when that launches in 2022. Gary Sheffield, who had been in the TBS studio since 2013, is not returning. He was also a guest studio analyst in 20, during Johnson’s initial studio tenure. Granderson is joining Turner Sports full-time after serving as a guest studio analyst last season. Johnson, who previously anchored the TBS studio show from 2007-09, is slated to work alongside the returning Pedro Martinez, Jimmy Rollins and Curtis Granderson. The New York Post first reported the move. Johnson replaces Casey Stern, who had been the network’s studio host since 2014.

In addition to the new TV deal, Turner also announced Thursday that Ernie Johnson will return to the TBS MLB studio starting this postseason. Initial reports in the summer had Turner paying around $470 million per year. Per Sports Business Journal, Turner will pay $535 million per year under the deal, up 65% from the current level of $325 million.
